Tucked inside the Point Roberts Community Center, the Point Roberts History Center is a cozy place to slow down, look back, and discover the people, places, and moments that shaped this one-of-a-kind community.
Opened by the Point Roberts Historical Society in 2019, the center brings local history to life through rotating photo displays, a timeline of Point Roberts history, the Judy Ross Abandoned House quilt series, and fascinating glimpses into life on the peninsula through the years. Before you leave, browse the unique gift shop for locally inspired clothing, books, cards, and other Point Roberts treasures.
History Where It Happened
The stories don’t stop at the History Center.
Pick up a map and head outside to explore the Point Roberts History Trail, where interpretive signs throughout the community reveal the history of the peninsula in the very places where it happened.

Point Roberts Backstory tells the fascinating story of a one-of-a-kind American town. Perched on the tip of a Canadian peninsula which extends into U.S. waters, Point Roberts is a community like no other. Residents – including the school kids – have to drive through Canada to get to this unique “exclave” from the U.S. mainland. Point Roberts has seen it all: mysterious middens, smugglers, pirates, squatters, Icelandic-speaking settlers, rock stars and thousands of Canadians. They all mix in an unbelievable history all the more amazing when you learn it all happened in its tiny five square miles.
